Patuakhali Sadar Upazila does not have any natural resources. However, a large number of hilsa fish are found in the pigeons of this region. A large quantity of hilsa fish is caught from the Pigeon River every year. Pigeon hilsa is unique in the taste of fish. From here a large quantity of hilsa fish is sent to different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka for sale every year.Hilsa fishing and marketing has created employment for thousands of people in the area. Barisal is called as grain store, so as this district is also under Barisal division, paddy yield is high here, this district is best in Balam rice production.
